Why two hotel photography quotes can look so different, and the scope decisions that move the price up or down.

Ask three studios for a hotel photography quote and you may receive three very different numbers. Usually they are not pricing the same job. One has assumed a single day of rooms and exteriors; another has included food, people, golden-hour light and a short film. Understanding what sits behind a quote makes it much easier to compare like with like.

This guide explains the decisions that shape the cost of hotel and resort photography in India, so you can brief a studio clearly and receive proposals that answer the same question.

1. What needs to be photographed

The shot list is the largest single factor. A small boutique stay with four room types is a different job from a resort with villas, a spa, three restaurants, event lawns and a pool. Write down every space you need, then mark which ones matter most for bookings. Room categories, the arrival experience and the view usually come first; back-of-house and secondary corridors rarely earn their place.

2. How many shoot days, and at what times

Good hospitality photography follows the light. Exteriors and pools often look best early in the morning or around sunset, while interiors may need controlled daylight. A property that needs both dawn and dusk across several buildings may need more than one day, even if the room count is modest. Ask each studio how they would schedule the day; it tells you a lot about how they work.

3. Styling and preparation

Rooms that are prepared for camera photograph better: linen pressed, clutter removed, lamps working, fresh flowers placed. Some properties handle this with their housekeeping team; others need a stylist. Food photography adds plating time and kitchen coordination. Agree who is responsible before the shoot, because preparation time on the day is shoot time too.

4. People in the frame

Images with guests, staff or models help a viewer imagine the stay, but they add planning. Talent, wardrobe, consent and release forms all need arranging. Many properties start with a small number of lifestyle moments, such as breakfast on a balcony or a chef at work, rather than a fully cast campaign.

5. Film alongside photography

If you also need a property film or social reels, plan them together. Shared scheduling and one visual direction usually cost less than two separate productions, and the results feel consistent. Our content production service plans stills, film and short-form edits as one shoot.

6. Travel and location

For properties outside the studio's city, travel time, accommodation and equipment transport are part of the cost. Hill stations and remote resorts may also need an extra buffer day for weather. A studio that has worked in similar locations can plan this realistically.

7. Editing, delivery and usage

Ask how many final images are included, what level of retouching is standard, and when you will receive them. Clarify usage: website, social media, OTAs, print and advertising. Most hospitality shoots include broad marketing usage for the property, but campaigns with paid media or third-party partners may need a specific agreement.

How to request comparable quotes

Send every studio the same short brief:

  • Property name, location and type
  • A list of spaces, in priority order
  • Whether you need people, food or film
  • Preferred dates and any seasonal considerations
  • Where the images will be used
  • The decision the content needs to support, such as direct bookings or wedding enquiries

With the same brief, differences between quotes become differences in approach and quality rather than in assumptions.

If you are planning a shoot, tell us about your property and we will suggest a scope that fits the brief and your timeline. You can also see recent hotel and resort photography from properties across India.
