Fifteen reel ideas for hotels and resorts, grouped by the story they tell, with tips on planning them into a single shoot.
Short vertical video is now one of the most effective ways for a hotel to be discovered on Instagram. The challenge is rarely ideas. It is producing enough good footage, consistently, without disrupting operations. The answer is to plan reels in advance and capture many of them in one well-organised shoot.
Here are fifteen ideas, grouped by the part of the stay they show.
Arrival and first impressions
- The approach. The drive, walk or boat ride to the property, ending as the building comes into view.
- The welcome. A welcome drink, a garland or a key handover, filmed from the guest's point of view.
- Door to view. Open the room door and walk straight to the window or balcony in one continuous shot.
Rooms and spaces
- Room reveal. A slow move across the bed, seating, bathroom and view, with a simple caption naming the room type.
- Morning light. Curtains opening onto the view at sunrise.
- Small details. Textures, local craft, a reading corner, the welcome note: the things guests photograph themselves.
- After dark. The pool, lawns or courtyard lit in the evening.
Food and drink
- Breakfast on the balcony. One of the most saved formats in hospitality.
- The chef at work. A signature dish from preparation to plate.
- Farm or market to table. Where ingredients come from, if the story is genuine.
Experiences and people
- A day in one reel. Morning walk, lunch, pool, sunset and dinner, cut to music.
- Meet the team. A short introduction to the people guests will meet, with their permission.
- Local experience. A nearby trail, temple, village, lake or market that gives a reason to visit.
Seasons and occasions
- Seasonal change. Monsoon greenery, winter bonfires or festival decoration.
- Celebration set-ups. Wedding, anniversary or private dining arrangements for enquiries.
How to plan reels into one shoot
Write a shot list grouped by location and time of day, not by reel. The balcony breakfast, curtain reveal and room reveal can all be filmed in the same morning session. Capture each moment in vertical format for social media and horizontal format for the website at the same time, and record a few seconds of clean ambient sound.
Keep reels short and let the first second show something worth stopping for. Add captions so they work without sound, and name the property and location on screen or in the caption.
Turning footage into a calendar
One good shoot can supply a month or more of posts when it is planned for. Map the reels into a calendar alongside offers and seasonal moments, and keep a library of extra clips for stories and ads. Our social media management for hotels and content production teams plan exactly this together.
